Currently, there are around 4.3 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.

Are you passionate about creating lasting change for Australians with disability? The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is seeking dedicated professionals to join our dynamic and forward-thinking team as a Support Needs Assessor.

As a Support Needs Assessor, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of disability support through our New Framework Planning model. You will work directly with participants and their representatives to administer the I-CAN Support Needs Assessment tool, drawing on your clinical expertise, empathy, and strong communication skills.

Duties include:

  • Conducting support needs assessments by gathering information from participants and their representatives, and preparing clear, structured assessments.
  • Applying established policies and procedures using sound judgement, while maintaining a participant-centred approach.
  • Communicating respectfully and clearly with participants, families, representatives and support networks, including explaining assessment processes and outcomes through both virtual and face-to-face channels.
  • Identifying and escalating issues based on complexity, risk or policy limitations, ensuring appropriate and timely resolution.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across the NDIA to support planning and contribute to service improvements.

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience in trauma-informed, culturally aware, and ethical practice
  • A commitment to person-centred approaches and continuous improvement
  • Ability to analyse complex information and apply relevant legislation to reflect decisions
  • A recognised tertiary qualification in a health or allied health field is highly desirable.

This role is being offered Nationally, with no requirement on what State or Territory it is performed at. Remote working arrangements may be considered.

We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
