About the Paediatric Social Work Rotation at Monash Health
Social work services are provided to families/carers of infants and children across various sites at Monash Health. This rotational Grade 1 position covers Monash Health Community, Victorian Paediatric Rehabilitation Service and acute services at Monash Children’s Hospital. Each rotation is of 8 months duration.
Monash Health Community: In the Child and Family Team you will provide social work services as part of the Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies (HMHB) program. The role of the Social Worker in HMHB is to assess and treat pregnant women in a developmentally appropriate way, within the context of their relationships with their families and the broader social systems which affect their lives. The Social Work role is to develop and maintain links within the community, requiring a broad knowledge of legal welfare and social services practice pertinent to pregnant women which will enable them to be linked to resources, advocacy and consultation as required.
Victorian Paediatric Rehabilitation Service: In VPRS at Monash Health you will see a combination of inpatient and ambulatory clients who require time limited, goal focused, interdisciplinary rehabilitation. As a state-wide service you may also need to travel to other VPRS sites
Monash Children’s Allied Health: At the Monash Children’s Hospital you will work with a broad range of patients and families across both inpatient wards and outpatient clinics.
A bit About these Roles
As the paediatric Grade 1 Social Worker you will collaborate with colleagues across the acute, subacute and community sectors to foster clinical excellence and consistency of practice within the service. You will have a good knowledge of resources and have a good understanding of the assessment and intervention frameworks used to guide practice including the Children’s Youth and Families Act and appropriate referral networks. You will be able to demonstrate skills in psycho-social assessments, problem solving, communication and discharge planning. You will develop and maintain strong links with universities and your Monash Health social work colleagues. You will be a dynamic, innovative and flexible practitioner and will receive regular supervision from highly experienced social work supervisors.
You may be required to participate in the after-hours on call rosters at Monash Health and will be expected to work across sites within Monash Health as required.

This role is classified as a Grade 1 Social Worker and is paid according to award rates with post graduate qualification allowance as applicable. Weekend shifts and on-call shifts will be paid according to award rates.

VPRS and Monash Children’s Allied Health are based at Monash Children’s Hospital in Clayton. Community Health spans various locations in the SE suburbs including Cranbourne, Pakenham and Springvale.
