·       Base Salary HEO 6 $89K p.a., pro-rata + 17% superannuation



About the opportunity


The University of Sydney is welcoming applications for a Gambling Community Engagement Officer

to be part of the GambleAware team, to provide counselling within the operating policies and related University policies to conduct effective community engagement with a range of stakeholders impacted by problem gambling.  This role plays a critical role and will conduct effective engagement with a range of stakeholders impacted by gambling problems in addition to the treatment of gambling related issues for gamblers and their significant others

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • provide counselling to gamblers and their family members
  • build relationships with external providers across the region and all counsellors
  • increase awareness of gambling problems and options for gambling treatment and how to make referrals among relevant agencies, stakeholders, and organisations
  • coordinate events for target groups to increase the profile and delivery of key GambleAware messages
  • under the direction of management, produce promotional and educational materials that comply with the GambleAware brand and are suitable for communication to a variety of target audiences
  • conduct community presentations, participate in local community events and spend time with local community members
  • work closely with team to plan for the impact of any campaign/event so clinical staff are available to manage increased referrals
  • deliver community-based help-seeking and education sessions for a range of audiences including community, health and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse organisations

About you

  • a tertiary qualification in psychology, counselling, or social work
  • registered with the Psychology Board of Australia, Australian Association of Social workers or equivalent
  • demonstratable understanding and experience in complying with Good Clinical Practice, regulatory, ethical, privacy and other relevant guidelines
  • superior interpersonal skills
  • ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients, team members and stakeholders
  • exercise tact and sound judgement
  • ability to work independently and autonomously
  • superior written and oral communication skills
  • excellent time and workload management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise workload effectively during busy periods, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and achieve required outcomes
  • prior experience in conducting a range of community engagement activities
  • experience working with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities is highly desirable
  • a current NSW driver’s license, C Class.

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. For a continuing position, you must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
