Grade 2 Social Worker, Monash Children’s Hospital, Part Time temporary (24 hours per week until January 2023)

Monash Children’s Hospital is one of Australia’s leading providers of integrated children’s health services, with more than 30 specialist services and programs. We have Victoria’s largest Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and provide leading paediatric services in many areas including Rehabilitation & Oncology.

This Social Work role sits within the Monash Children’s Allied Health department and has close ties to the Paediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology Department. The position primarily involves supporting children and families with diabetes and other endocrine conditions, however may provide cover to other paediatric caseloads. The role is 24 hours week.

A bit about this role

As the Grade 2 Social Worker, you will collaborate with colleagues across the acute and community sectors to foster clinical excellence and consistency of practice within the service. You will provide social work services within clinics, on inpatient wards and other areas as appropriate. You will be an important member of the Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes team. You will have a good knowledge of resources and have a good understanding of the assessment and intervention frameworks used to guide practice including the Children’s Youth and Families Act and appropriate referral networks. You will be able to demonstrate skills in psycho-social assessments, problem solving, communication and discharge planning. You will be skilled at supporting families adjusting to their child’s illness and able to provide grief and bereavement support as required. You will develop and maintain strong links with universities and your Monash Health social work colleagues and supervise students and other staff as required. You will be a dynamic, innovative and flexible practitioner and will receive regular supervision from highly experienced social work supervisors with opportunities for ongoing professional development.

You will be required to participate in two Monday evening clinics per month, and the on call after hours social work service across the Monash Hospital sites and may be expected to work across sites within Monash Health as required.

What we’re looking for in you

Minimum 2 years clinical social work experience
A relevant social work qualification
Eligible for AASW membership
Experience preferably in an acute health care setting and/or with children and families

The role will be based at Monash Children’s Hospital and Monash Medical Centre. Monash Children’s Hospital is a newly purpose built facility in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne, adjacent to Monash Medical Centre. Travel may be required to other Monash Health locations.
