About our client

Our client - a leading Independent Co-Educational ELC-12 School located in Hawthorn East - is seeking a Head of Psychology and Counselling Services.

The School is highly regarded for its academic excellence, as well as its close nurturing community of approximately 1,046 students, approximately 240 full-time and part-time staff and 160 casual staff.

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Student Services and ultimately the Assistant Principal (Pastoral Care), this dynamic and demanding role is responsible for leading the School's team of mental healthcare and wellbeing practitioners to deliver a progressive and innovative service to the School community that supports the School's wellbeing program.

Additionally, this middle management role will oversee School Psychologists and Counsellors, including:

  • Promoting and delivering a holistic model of professional development, care and support
  • Caseload management of students/families requiring assessment
  • Advocacy
  • Counselling
  • Referral
  • Practical assistance
  • Liaison and feedback as required
  • Overseeing a relevant reporting system
  • Providing guidance and supporting members of the wider School Wellbeing Team including Heads of School, Year Level Coordinators and homeroom teachers
  • Proactively developing and delivering counselling, training and group work and consultation services to students, parents/caregivers and families

               This role could start immediately or Term 1 2022.

The ideal candidate must have:

  • Tertiary level qualification in Psychology / Social Work / Counselling
  • Current registration with the applicable agency (e.g. AHPRA / ACA / PACFA / AASW)
  • Experience in counselling, working with families in crisis, risk assessments and working with students with disabilities
  • Experience in implementing a variety of progressive psychology and counselling services, training and educational programs
  • Experience working with complex cases
  • Experience working within a systemic therapy paradigm
  • Experience with children / youth mental health, suicidal ideation, eating disorders and school refusal
