School Counsellor & Family Support Caseworker

Creating positive outcomes for our students and families by enriching our school communities is at the heart of everything we do at the Catholic Schools Broken Bay. We support 44 Catholic primary and secondary schools across Sydney's North, Northern Beaches and Central Coast and educate over 17,000 students.

About the role

We have two newly created positions available to be based at our new Catholic Community Centre; a hub to provide holistic and family-centred support to our school communities of St Brigid’s Catholic College and St Brendan’s Catholic Primary in Lake Munmorah. 

Family Support Caseworker - full time, 3 year contract APPLY HERE

This role will be crucial in leading the establishment and coordination of the new Community Centre alongside school leaders and the Centre team.  You will be pivotal in providing outreach intervention and support to students and their families.  

School Counsellor - full time, 3 year contract  APPLY HERE

Provide counselling support and mental health assessments to primary and secondary students as part of the Centre team.

About you

To be successful in either of these roles you will be an experienced Psychologist or Social Worker and registered with an appropriate professional association (i.e. APS or AASW). 

Essential Criteria

  • Understanding and commitment to the ethos of Catholic education
  • Experience in family case management using evidence-based interventions
  • Knowledge of current child protection legislation
  • Providing specialist advice to practitioners and school personnel working with significant family support needs
  • Ability to design, track and monitor pre and post intervention data
  • An ability to work independently and collaboratively within and across teams including Family Liaison Officers, school counsellors, school leaders and external health service providers  
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working within a school environment
  • Knowledge of the NSW Education Act (1990)
  • Experience in facilitating therapeutic groups (including parenting programs) or delivering professional learning
  • Experience facilitating proactive and preventative programs that develop social and emotional skills and strengthens the overall wellbeing of families. 

The rewards

In return, we offer a salary of up to $107,779 plus superannuation, salary packaging and a supportive and collaborative team environment. Teacher conditions apply which is inclusive of school holidays. Occasionally, duties will require a variation of hours. Own transport is essential and travelling costs will be reimbursed in accordance with the policies and procedures of Catholic Schools Broken Bay.
