Job Description

The Community Engagement Worker role is to promote the services of the two headspace centres, and help young people to get early access to health and other services.

  • Part Time Positions (3 days per week)
  • Narre Warren & Dandenong Location, Victoria

About the Role:

  • Ensure that accessible information is provided to young people, their families and the local community to increase the capacity of young people and their community to connect with appropriate health and wellbeing supports at the time they are needed
  • Help increase community awareness of mental health issues among young people, facilitate youth and where relevant family participation; and organise and deliver health promotion
    activities and community events
  • Support young people, their friends and family by drawing upon their own personal experiences of navigating challenging issues, mental health problems, treatment, recovery, and engaging with services
  • Work collaboratively with all staff located at both headspace centres to help ensure the centres deliver youth-focussed services to young people

About You:

  • Well-developed problem solving and negotiation skills especially with young people in the early stages of help seeking
  • Exceptional ability to engage and communicate to groups of people
  • Ability to maintain positive stakeholder relationships and work collaboratively with all stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience working with young people with mental health, alcohol and other drug, and other social issues
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating and facilitating youth programs, events and activities within a community setting
  • Strong experience and expertise with social media as a communication tool
  • Has ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment
  • Has ability to work flexible hours including weekend and after hours work, as required.
  • Respects the ethical beliefs and diversity of others
  • Is culturally aware and values social inclusiveness as a strength and positively utilises diversity
  • Has capacity to recognise own feelings and those of others, self-reflection and self-awareness.
