The Team

The Client Services team supports schools to enhance student wellbeing and safety through evidence-based interventions, working alongside multidisciplinary teams of allied health and special education professionals. The team operates within Student Wellbeing and Inclusion Programs and Services (SWIPS), part of Inclusion and Engagement Services, which delivers tailored support to improve inclusion, engagement, and learning access for children and students.

SWIPS provides expert advice and guidance to ensure all students are welcomed into inclusive learning environments where they can thrive. A strong focus on Family Inclusive Practice underpins the work, fostering partnerships between schools, families and communities to support student wellbeing and success.

 

The Role

As a School Counsellor, you will provide support to schools to improve the wellbeing and safety of students, collaborating closely with school wellbeing teams and families. You’ll play a vital role in promoting the wellbeing, inclusion and attendance of students within a multi-tiered system of support framework.

By providing whole school and class support, small group interventions and individual counselling, you’ll be able to build strong partnerships within the school community and contribute to a positive, supportive environment that enhances outcomes for all students.

You will be based in a nominated school, working under corporate based conditions with flexibility for potential travel between schools and corporate offices in both urban and regional areas. Travel to regional areas may require a four-wheel drive vehicle and training will be provided by the Department of Education and Training.

About you

You’re dedicated to supporting wellbeing and promoting student success.

To be successful you will have:

·         An Australian degree or diploma in Counselling that meets full eligibility requirements for membership with the Australian Counselling Association, Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia, Australian Community Counselling Association, OR approved social work qualification for eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers, OR psychology qualifications that enable full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (through AHPRA).

·         Demonstrated ability to provide social, emotional and wellbeing support at individual, group and whole-school levels, using evidence-based practices, including managing self-harm, suicide risk and safety planning

·         Knowledge of counselling theory and techniques, applying culturally appropriate approaches to support students’ emotional, social, and educational development.

·         Ability to work independently and collaboratively with school wellbeing teams to support complex student needs, a strong understanding of scope and when to refer to specialist services.

·         A current Working with Children Notice (Ochre Card) from SAFE NT or ability to obtain.
