Role Details

The Department for Child Protection is seeking a Social Worker or Case Manager to join our team on a full-time term basis.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing effective case management services to respond to the needs of children and their families in a timely manner.
  • Delivering a range of intervention strategies to safeguard children and promote positive outcomes.
  • Providing written and verbal reports which are concise, informative and based on an analysis of evidence gathered.
  • Conducting investigations and assessments in a child-centred manner, focused on the safety of the child and on the support of the parent/family.
  • Participating in regular visits and supporting parents in developing appropriate parenting skills.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Knowledge of the factors that contribute to child abuse and can apply this understanding to your work and the decisions you make.
  • Exceptional multi-tasking abilities and the ability to organise work activities whilst considering the need to prioritise tasks.
  • Knowledge of culturally sensitive child protection practices for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other communities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to help establish positive working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.

Special Conditions

Essential Qualifications:

AHP: A degree level qualification in Social Work which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.

PO: Appropriate degree qualification in Community Services, Social Sciences, Human Services, Health or related field.

Persons of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, who have the appropriate background and skills but do not have the essential qualification, may apply for and be engaged/assigned to the role of Social Worker and will be entitled to apply for any Allied Health Professional roles requiring a qualification in Social Work within the Department for Child Protection (DCP).
