24/1/2018 Profile- Linda Latta I am a recent graduate of the Bachelor of Social Work with Griffith University awarded with first class honours. I also have an Advanced Diploma in Family Counselling. I have recent Child Safety and clinical mental health work experience. I have previously worked as a teacher aide assisting children with learning difficulties and some with disabilities for over eight years. This includes volunteer experience in various community organisations. The following credentials and experience is listed for your information: I am passionate about early intervention. I have a strong knowledge and interest in marginalised groups, and families struggling with mental health, domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse, child protection concerns and unemployment. I have developed case management skills while working with families with complex needs from a range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds during my university placements. This included advocacy and referral work. I have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including a caring presence and an ability to build a connection with people. My professional practice includes implementing and following personal self-care plans to minimize the impact of vicarious trauma. I have demonstrated organisational skills, effective time management and competent computer skills in both placements and while at university. I hold a current Blue Card, have a National Police Check, a driver’s licence, first aid certificate, membership of the Australian Association of Social Work and own my own vehicle. One university placement was at DOCs, Child Safety at Springfield where I worked with CSOs to deliver integrated child protection services. I gained various knowledge of the system including the practice framework, assessment processes, child protection concerns, and the function of the various teams as well as the responsibility to commit to departmental policies. I completed the two-week staff program ‘Readiness for Child Protection Practice’ which includes knowledge of the practice framework, assessment processes, child protection concerns, child protection continuum and the different teams and their roles and the legalities involved. I worked with individuals across a range of ages, to assist them in meeting their goals by utilising their strengths. I demonstrated and maintained quality case records and participated in case plans and safety plans. I also worked autonomously with a family which involved home visits to assess and monitor the family’s involvement and progress in achieving their goals. I was able to build a trusting relationship with the family and support them over many weeks. I also supervised family contact visits. I worked with a mother with a disability over a 9-week period, supervising her twice a week while she had a two-hour contact time with her baby. I was able to assist her with transport, organisational skills and support with appropriate care giving to her baby. Another university placement I gained experience working in clinical community mental health with adults while on my 17-week university practicum. I worked alongside a senior mental health social work professional, for West Moreton Hospital Health Service. I gained experience working with people with severe mental health issues under the recovery model. I worked in a case management role under the Mental Health Act which involved psychosocial assessments, intervention and referral work, managing risk, supporting compliance to medications and advocating for clients (to gain access to services and promoting client self-determination). This experience involved working with a clinical multiple disciplinary team which I valued and enjoyed. In both placements, I have experienced working in crisis intervention and gained knowledge in issues for clients such as; trauma, substance abuse, family violence, housing and unemployment. This includes understanding the barriers that various marginalised clients face such as lack of social supports, discrimination, and access to services. I also utilised social work theories in both placements such as client centred, strengths based, solution focussed therapy and ecological systems theory to help understand and work with clients with complex problems. I have also demonstrated confidentiality, respect, non-judgement, and cultural sensitivity while working with clients and staff. I understand the importance of networking and collaborating with community services and stakeholders to achieve meeting service user’s needs and goals. I gained knowledge of community support services while working in both placements. I am committed to professional integrity, positive work culture, and the code of ethics.
