Purpose of Position:
The Social work position will work in partnership with the Birra-li team to provide; counselling, casework, group work and community development activities in order to enhance the physical, environmental, social, mental and emotional health of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander families, (antenatally through to their child is 8 years old), who access Birra-li in the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Port Stephens local government areas.
 
Selection Criteria:
-Degree in social work or equivalent with eligibility for membership of the AASW.
-Extensive experience as a Social Worker. Experience in a community setting and/or with maternal and infant mental health would be viewed favourably.
-Knowledge and understanding of A&TSI society and culture and relevant family issues in the contemporary Australian context.
-Demonstrated commitment to improving the health of A&TSI families.
-Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and liaise with other health professionals and other government and non-government agencies to facilitate case management and care planning.
-Demonstrated advanced reasoning skills and be able to operate autonomously with minimum direct clinical supervision.
-Well developed written, oral, computer time management and communication skills.
-Female (under Section 31 of the Anti-discrimination act 1977).
-Current unencumbered drivers’ license.
