Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 5 / Psychologist Grade 4

  • Mid West Area Mental Health Service
  • Full time, Permanent Position
  • 80 hours per fortnight, including ADO

Life with Us:

The Mid West Area Mental Health Service (MWAMHS) provides mental health services to consumers residing and working in the Municipalities’ of Melton and Brimbank, in the Sunbury/Bulla. The catchment area offers several unique features which provide opportunities in the area of service provision, new mental health care initiatives and research opportunities.

This role is primarily based at the Melton Community Health Centre, and will work with the associated Community Team, Emergency Mental Health and residential and Inpatient Units. The role also works along the existing Forensic Clinical Specialist working at Harvester Clinic Sunshine.

We are committed to working with consumers during their recovery by offering holistic and evidence-based treatment, which is inclusive of family and carers and provided by clinicians with well-developed skills

A Job to Be Proud Of:

  • Provide primary and secondary consultation and liaison to Area Mental Health Service clinicians to support clinical work with consumers who have a forensic history and may be a serious risk of re-offending
  • Undertake primary/joint assessments of consumers with a forensic history (violent offences) and those who present as a potentially serious risk of violent offending, across a range of clinical areas 
  • Build capacity within the Area Mental Health Service to better assess and respond to the consumer with a forensic history

This position will be primarily linked to local area Correctional facilities (Ravenhall Correctional Centre (Ballert Yeram Boo-ee), Dame Phyllis Frost Centre (Marmak Unit) and act as a central resource contact for the relevant Court and Correctional services within the municipalities of Melton and Brimbank (including Sunbury/Bulla). In working with these agencies you will improve referral pathways and area responsiveness to people transitioning from prison and the courts (Mental Health Clinical Liaison) to specialist mental health care.

Your Contribution:

  •  Excellent communication skills
  • Extensive clinical experience
  • The ability to provide advice regarding the management of complex high-risk behaviours
  • Interest and experience in the assessment and treatment of mental health consumers with co-existing forensic problems
